Pray the Word

“The entrance of Your words gives light.”

Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)

In any area of our life that we need light, where should we look? The Word of God. When we want to pray prayers that bring light to situations, what words should we be using? The Word of God.

I want to encourage you that when you pray, use the Word of God! “The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV). The Word of God is living AND powerful AND sharper than any two-edged sword. Why would we not use the Word of God in our prayer life?

In the 1970’s and 80’s it became very popular to pray using Scripture. Everyone had lists of Bible verses that they prayed for different situations. This was not just praying based on Scriptures, but actually using the exact Scripture to pray. You can’t go wrong using the Word of God in your prayers.

I love to use the prayers that Paul prayed in Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, etc. but also other Scriptures that give us truth. For example:

  • Isaiah 54:17 tells us that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

  • Philippians 4:13 says I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.

I can use these truths when I pray!

I cannot tell you how many times I have been praying the prayers in Ephesians 1 and 3, for the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…, the eyes of my understanding to be enlightened…, that I might comprehend with all the saints…, and had revelation right then while I was praying from the Word of God.

Find Scriptures that minister to you and use them when you pray. You will see more light and revelation about that truth in your life. You will be blessed and you will have confidence that you are praying His will, that He hears you, and that you will have what you pray for (1 John 5:14-15). The entrance of His Word brings light to the situation you are praying for AND light to you and your understanding. Pray the Word of God!
